EXP BEER SERIES
IN SEARCH OF WHAT’S NEXT IN BEER
TO EXPERIMENT
& EXPLORE
Introduced in Fall of 2020, The EXP Beer Series from Yakima Chief Hops started in partnership with our good friends at Old Schoolhouse Brewery to EXPERIMENT & EXPLORE with different hops, products, and techniques. Utilizing the YCH pilot brewery in Yakima, the YCH Brewing Innovations team brews small batches of beer to test a wide range of different hop varieties and products.
Working alongside our industry leading sensory and technical teams, we drive innovation on the hop side and correlate how those hops and innovations translate into finished beer. We then collaborate with our partner breweries beginning with recipe formulation for the pilot brews and ending with the finished beer produced on their brewhouse.
The EXP Beer series serves as a way for us to conduct this critical hop research while allowing the brewing community a chance to experience and learn more about the
emerging varieties, trends and solutions in beer. While this series is in its early stages, you can expect to see new EXP beers released throughout the year with OSB and other brewing partners as the project expands.
As an extension of the EXP Beer Series, the YCH Brewing Innovations team also works in partnership with Bale Breaker Brewing and Yakima Chief Ranches on a project called In the Lup®. As a beer collaboration between a hop breeder, hop supplier and local brewery, this project focuses on highlighting experimental hop varieties, keeping brewers “in the lup” on what’s new in the hop fields.
As you come across these beers, tell us what you think! Batch specific surveys are hosted to capture your feedback. Follow the link for the unique batch of EXP and In the Lup beers you are drinking to submit your input. Your feedback will be used to create brewing resources, facilitate research findings, and weigh in on what works and what doesn’t in the brewhouse. The EXP Beer Series is all about collaboration, from hop breeder to beer drinker, and we want to bring you all along on this journey as we explore new ways of making great beer even better.
